OAG reviews alleged murder case of 25-Year-Old woman that happend in Changangkha, Thimphu

The Office of the Attorney General, OAG has started reviewing the alleged murder case of the 25-year-old woman that occurred in the lower Changangkha area, Thimphu in March. The Thimphu Police forwarded the case to the OAG for prosecution last week. The police have submitted their investigation report, the post-mortem report of the deceased woman and other circumstantial evidence related to the case to the OAG. While the police are still working on the DNA analysis to determine or rule out the possibility of rape, a psychiatrist at the national referral hospital who is carrying out the mental health assessment...

Year-on Year CPI increases by 4.99 % in March 2024

The latest figures released by the National Statistics Bureau show that the year-on-year consumer price index for March increased by 4.99 per cent compared to the same month, last year. This means that the prices of goods and services in the country increased by 4.99 per cent in the 12 months.

River systems posing threats to White-bellied Herons – WBH population survey report

White-bellied herons are at a high risk of extinction due to habitat loss and degradation. According to the Royal Society for Protection of Nature, RSPN, the conservation of the critically endangered bird is constrained by the impacts of climate change, natural calamities, diminishing food resources and limited knowledge about its ecology and biology. According to RSPN’s annual White-bellied heron population survey report, there are some levels of threats to the bird across the country’s river systems. The survey found that Bhutan is home to 25 White-bellied Herons.

Prime Minister commits training support for journalists

The Prime Minister, during the Annual Journalism Award last evening, committed the government’s support to train Bhutanese journalists. The Prime Minister called for all the media houses to submit proposals on what needs to be changed to improve the country’s press freedom index which dropped to 147 this year from 90 last year.

Bad road hinders Dungna’s developmental efforts

Road connectivity is vital for fostering developmental activities and improving livelihoods. As such Gewog Center Roads across the country are supposed to be of good quality. However, the road condition at Dungna in Chhukha tells a different tale. Despite the farmers tirelessly pursuing agriculture given the favourable climate for crop cultivation, inadequate road infrastructure has hindered developmental efforts and livelihoods.

Khabtey Menchhudrang in Trashigang with better facilities

People visiting the Khabtey Menchudrang in Trashigang now have better facilities. The Trashigang District Administration constructed facilities like toilets and bathtubs, which has been leased out to a private individual for operation. Until now, without such facilities, visitors faced challenges as they had to do everything themselves.

Bhutanese wildlife biologist wins Whitley Award for his efforts to save Gee’s golden langur

Kuenzang Dorji, a wildlife biologist at the Royal Society for Protection of Nature, has received the prestigious Whitley Award in London for safeguarding the endangered Gee’s golden langur and addressing human-wildlife conflict. He is among the seven conservationists selected from more than a hundred applications worldwide this year. The award, often referred to as ‘Green Oscars’ was presented yesterday with each winner receiving £ 50,000 to expand their conservation efforts globally. 

87 and going strong, Dengo relives his heydays

At 87 years old, age is just a number for Dengo from Paro, who participated as the oldest archer in the ongoing Jigme Dorji Wangchuck Memorial National Archery Tournament. Not only is he the oldest participant, but his team also comprised of elderly men all above 60 years of age.
