DRC extends property tax filing by another month

The Department of Revenue and Customs has extended the deadline for filing property taxes and Personal Income Tax for people earning rental income by another month. The department on Tuesday said that there are still more than 40,000 people who have yet to file their property taxes. People have been complaining about the department's system errors hampering their tax payments. The department wrote to the Finance Ministry for an extension on Tuesday.  

Bhutanese boxer’s international debut ends in quarterfinal loss to Indian boxer

Bhutanese Boxer Kinley Phuntsho lost to his Indian opponent Mandengban Jadumani Singh in the quarterfinals of the Asian Boxing Confederation's Asian Under-22 and Youth Boxing Championships today in Astana, Kazakhstan. 19-year-old Kinley in red fought in the men’s under-22 flyweight category. Despite going neck and neck with the opponent, he lost the match by unanimous decision. The coach said Kinley fought very well despite the match being his international debut. He added that Kinley is technically good but the Indian boxer is tactically better because of a lot of international exposure. Gyatsa Chiwog receives safe drinking water

Getting reliable and safe drinking water will no longer be a struggle for residents of Gaytsa Chiwog at Chhumey Gewog in Bumthang. This is because a water project worth Nu 7.5 M was completed and handed over to the people today. The construction began last September with the help of 70 DeSuups. A reservoir with a capacity of 30,000 litres and public tap stands were built. The project will benefit more than 60 households and 500 residents of Gyatsa, Buli and nearby communities including a monastic school.

Logchina Gewog residents call for urgent need of bridge reconstruction

Monsoon is around the corner, and residents of Logchina village in Phuentshogling Gewog are worried. About a year ago, one of the crucial bridges connecting the village at Chimti was washed away. The gewog office reportedly approached relevant offices to rebuild the bridge but was told there was no budget.

24-year-old Jigme Pelden Dorji will be the first Bhutanese to scale Mount Everest

If everything goes well, 24-year-old Jigme Pelden Dorji will be the first Bhutanese to scale Mount Everest, the tallest peak in the world. SDI Health Survey reveals doctors dissatisfied with balancing patient care and administration duties

Doctors, among all staff in the healthcare system, are reported to have the highest dissatisfaction in balancing patient care and administrative duties. This is according to the Ministry of Health’s Service Delivery Indicators or SDI Health Survey, launched yesterday in the capital. The survey, the first of its kind in the South Asia Region, offers a detailed assessment that helps identify what is working well and what needs attention in healthcare service delivery.

Bhutanese wildlife biologist wins Whitley Award for his efforts to save Gee’s golden langur

Kuenzang Dorji, a wildlife biologist at the Royal Society for Protection of Nature, has received the prestigious Whitley Award in London for safeguarding the endangered Gee’s golden langur and addressing human-wildlife conflict. He is among the seven conservationists selected from more than a hundred applications worldwide this year. The award, often referred to as ‘Green Oscars’ was presented yesterday with each winner receiving £ 50,000 to expand their conservation efforts globally. 

87 and going strong, Dengo relives his heydays

At 87 years old, age is just a number for Dengo from Paro, who participated as the oldest archer in the ongoing Jigme Dorji Wangchuck Memorial National Archery Tournament. Not only is he the oldest participant, but his team also comprised of elderly men all above 60 years of age.
