Universidad Mayor, Real y Pontificia de San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca is a Bolivian public university. Located in Sucre, the capital of Bolivia, it is the oldest university in that country. It was founded on March 27, 1624, under the name of the Royal and Pontifical University of San Francisco Xavier, based on a Papal Bull issued by Gregory XV on July 9, 1621 and confirmed by a royal decree of King Philip IV of 1622.
It is currently one of Bolivia's most internationally renowned universities,1 with classes including students from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru and Venezuela, among other countries. It is one of the most important and prestigious universities in the country in terms of influence, excellence and openness, distinguished by its work in scientific research, as well as interaction and social activities. It has a large number of relationships and agreements with universities in America and Europe.
